Abigail giggling and swinging
Date: 08/11/2006
I was trying to get Abigail to look at me for a picture. She was being a goof, so she giggled while she was swinging.
Abigail is the last to swing
Date: 08/11/2006
This picture was taken just before I ripped up the stakes holding the swing in the ground, unbolted two bolts and collapsed the swingset on the other side of the yard. Abigail was more than happy to swing last.
Comparison picture oneComparing old and new swingsets
Date: 08/11/2006
Just so you can see the extent of the differences between the swingsets, and also their similarities.
Comparison picture twoSide by side to compare
Date: 08/11/2006
This shot shows that the new swingset is slightly taller (maybe four or six inches), slightly wider (20 inches vs. about 16 inches on the platform from this angle), and has a different make-up of wood.
Comparison picture threeSlightly exaggerated view of height difference
Date: 08/11/2006
This view makes the new swingset look like it towers over the old one. In actuality, there is probably less than a six inch difference in height.
Set in the groundSwingSet 2.0 set in the ground and level
Date: 08/12/2006
James and I spent some time with his little level and tape measure getting this swingset pretty close to level. It is much closer to level than the last one.
Tower end set in groundHere's the tower/platform end, all set in the ground
Date: 08/12/2006
Obviously the harder end to dig out and around, the tower end of the set is in and ready for anchors.
Far end set in groundA shot of the other end of the set
Date: 08/12/2006
For balance, here is the other end of the swingset, level and set in the ground, also waiting for anchors.
Nearly perfectly levelVery close to level
Date: 08/12/2006
Standing back, here is what you see, ready to be anchored and tightened up.
Slider Girl and Monkey BoyCompletely anchored, and the monkeys are set free
Date: 08/13/2006
The swingset is now completely anchored, and the pressure treated bases are almost completely buried. It turned out well, and the kids seem to like it!
Demonstrating climbing techniquesTwo of the accepted methods of climbing
Date: 08/13/2006
These two couldn't wait for me to give them the "go ahead" on the swingset. Happier faces I haven't seen in a while.
Abigail caught mid slideShe's getting some speed going there
Date: 08/13/2006
I've never seen anyone who likes to slide more than Abigail. I managed to catch her at mid-slide, and that wasn't easy!
James caught mid slideNot to be outdone, James puts on the speed
Date: 08/13/2006
I really don't know how I caught either of these two at mid-slide. They just move so fast that the camera doesn't usually have time to snap the picture.
Climb everyone, Climb! This is how it's done!
Date: 08/13/2006
James and Abigail sure like to climb. I bet I'll find Abigail up on top with James one day really soon...
James is already on topWhere else would he be?
Date: 08/13/2006
I don't know about you, but I think that is one happy looking boy. He did a lot to help with this swingset, so he definitely deserves a good smile.
Whole family on swingsetTook a few days, but finally everyone is in the picture
Date: 08/20/2006
The swingset has been up for a week now, and finally this evening we were able to get pictures of all of us on at once.
Whole family on swingsetAnother shot, with slightly different poses
Date: 08/20/2006
I was dragged into this shot, and if you can't tell, Karen tied me to the rope swing. Abigail is ready for action, of some sort. And James and Victoria are showing their batty side.
